Description
In this portrait of a frog in a pond, the frog is prominent, and the surface of the water hides what lies underneath. Greens abound, with the green frog surrounded by water plants; the yellow-brown of a fallen leaf plays along the bottom of the pond. Although the bottom can be seen, the reflection of the sky keeps it from interfering with the subject. Looking through the reflection, one can see the bottom half of the frog, as it sits in the shallow water of the pond.
It's hard to sneak up on a frog. I kept hearing a loud CROAK, and I would follow the sound. But as I got closer, that croak was followed by a splash. After two days photographic the area around the pond, I finally found a frog willing to pose for me, in this pond outside of Asheville, NC.
The sparkling reflection from the water's surface and the encroaching vegetation make this frog the center attention.
Asheville, NC is a vibrant city, full of museums, galleries, and music, not to mention the Biltmore House. It's surrounded by nature, being in the Blue Ridge Mountains. And one of my favorite campgrounds is just outside the city, in Swannanoa, NC. The East Asheville KOA has three ponds, with ducks, geese, dragonflies and yes, even frogs.
