Description
In this close-up image of an old Remington Model 11 typewriter, the focus is on the left side of the machine, with the TAB key and the numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, (This model used the uppercase "I" for the number 1.) Also showing are the letters WERTY. Note that the key bar for the letter "Q" is missing its spring, so that letter isn't aligned with the others.
Several of this model's innovative features are shown in this photo. One is the ribbon color indicator. It's located on the left side of the machine, and indicates three available colors: purple, red, and white. Also, above the number keys, is a row of square black keys. These are the keys of the Decimal Tabulator, with their place name indicated just above them on the face to the typewriter, including a decimal point, ones, tens, hundreds, etc. This device was useful for writing columns of numbers, for it lined them up precisely.
In spite of innovations, the time for typewriters has passed. This machine surely shows its age. The black paint is chipped and rust has taken its place.
My great-grandfather's typewriter -- a Remington 11.
