In this portrait of a frog in a pond, the frog is prominent, and the surface of the water hides what lies underneath. Greens abound, with the green frog surrounded by water plants; the yellow-brown of a fallen leaf plays along the bottom of the pond. Although the bottom can be seen, the reflection of the sky keeps it from interfering with the subject. Looking through the reflection, one can see the bottom half of the frog, as it sits in the shallow water of the pond.
It's hard to sneak up on a frog. I kept hearing a loud CROAK, and I would follow the sound. But as I got closer, that croak was followed by a splash. After two days photographic the area around the pond, I finally found a frog willing to pose for me, in this pond outside of Asheville, NC.
The sparkling reflection from the water's surface and the encroaching vegetation make this frog the center attention.

I've always loved looking at nature, drifting along with the ever-changing clouds, stopping to smell the roses. God's creation gives an abundant and ever changing variety of subjects for me to capture. I enjoy photographing all of nature, from the wide vistas of mountains and valleys, right down to spiders, butterflies, and dewdrops. I bought my first camera, a Canon AE-1, in 1979, and practiced and experimented and asked questions. I still ask questions and read blogs; but I've never taken a formal course or workshop. I switched to digital in 2000, which allows more experimenting, with instant feedback, so I can correct a shot immediately. My current camera is a Nikon D-90, with a 28-300 and a macro.
