Overcast sky is reflected in the still water of the lagoon, providing the background for a Great Blue Heron, as it hides behind the tall grasses along the shore. The grasses -- green, red, and gold -- complement the colors of the heron, whose head and bill give away its hiding place. The exceptional composition shows the subject on the right side of the photo, looking toward the open water on the left, hoping for escape.
For about an hour, I stalked this Great Blue Heron. Mostly it stood frozen, trying to hide behind the grass. If I shifted one way, it shifted the other. My patience paid off. Finally I got the shot I wanted. The color of the tall grass nicely complements the bird's bill, making an overall scene with green, red, and gold against the reflected gray sky.

I've always loved looking at nature, drifting along with the ever-changing clouds, stopping to smell the roses. God's creation gives an abundant and ever changing variety of subjects for me to capture. I enjoy photographing all of nature, from the wide vistas of mountains and valleys, right down to spiders, butterflies, and dewdrops.
