With a palette that relies heavily on brown, the texture of sand interwoven with a tangle of tiny roots contrasts with the calm stillness of the water's edge. The stagnant surface of the pond contrasts with the curling, twisting, living roots, reaching their toes into the life-giving water. Under the surface, stones and faded leaves mimic the acorns and pebbles scattered among the rooted tapestry. A portrait in brown. A portrait in nature. A portrait in life.
Asheville, NC and the surrounding area has an abundance of nature, with lakes, pond, rivers, and streams. A wonderful area for culture, concerts, and wildlife.

I've always loved looking at nature, drifting along with the ever-changing clouds, stopping to smell the roses. God's creation gives an abundant and ever changing variety of subjects for me to capture. I enjoy photographing all of nature, from the wide vistas of mountains and valleys, right down to spiders, butterflies, and dewdrops. I bought my first camera, a Canon AE-1, in 1979, and practiced and experimented and asked questions. I still ask questions and read blogs; but I've never taken a formal course or workshop. I switched to digital in 2000, which allows more experimenting, with instant feedback, so I can correct a shot immediately. My current camera is a Nikon D-90, with a 28-300 and a macro.
