Artist's Description

A lone oak stands sentinel over a small marina in the Low Country of South Carolina. The tree, with curls of Spanish moss hanging down, shines brightly against the nighttime sky, lit by a hidden spotlight at its base. Thus, the shape of the tree looms over land and sea.

The water, and the boats that populate it, are in the shadows of night; the sky is dark, but clear. There is a wooden boardwalk between the tree and the water; its hand rail forms a geometric pattern across the midpoint of the image, with landscape lighting at regular intervals. I switched to digital in 2000, which allows more experimenting, with instant feedback, so I can correct a shot immediately. My current camera is a Nikon D-90, with a 28-300 and a macro. Although I'm digital, I don't use...
