Description
Anhingas, are water birds. They perch on tree branches or shrubs near a pond and look through the water for food. Then, they dive through the water to catch that fish.
In this photo, an Anhinga is waiting of its lunch to arrive, sitting still, concentrating, with eyes focused on the water, looking for movement under the calm surface. Its long neck is angled down, balanced by the long narrow tail feathers.
A willow branch curves over the bird as it rests, framing it in an oval. The bird and nearby branches are of the same color -- shades of brown and gray. They show nicely against the pale blue of the water's surface, which reflects a clear sky. The top left corner of the image shows the gently colored leaves of early autumn.
This photo was taken at Brick Pong Park in downtown North Augusta, SC.
