Description
A damselfly rests on a leafy twig, centered in the frame of this image. Its legs are positioned on one leaf, with the shaft of its body resting on another. Seemingly black, the insect is, in fact, a deep blue, with lighter blue accents on its tail and an iridescent sheen on its head. The wings, which slant from the shoulder toward the upper right corner, are the only parts which are truly black, with one small white dot on the tip of each. Through the veins of the wings, the viewer can see the green of a leaf.
The young green sycamore leaves stretch from one side of the frame to the other, filling the lower third of the image. The background is completely blank, just a layer of mauve, letting the subject and staging area have their say.
The photo is horizontal in layout, mimicking the direction of the twig and the damselfly's body.
