Artist's Description

Against a backdrop of sky blue, a lone dragonfly rests on a vine. A white puffy cloud slips across the corner of the shot, neither blocking the sun nor disturbing the dragonfly. The two branches of the vine are crossed delicately, with new growth of yellow-green leaves. The insect's wings shine like brass edging on eye glasses. The red-brown of the needle fly's body is mimicked in the color of the vines.

Dragonflies fascinate me; I will follow them until they stop and pose for me, as this one did, resting on a tangle of vines. The clear blue sky, with a small cloud reaching into the shot, provides the backdrop for this beautiful nature photo.

Phinizy Swamp, an urban swamp in Augusta, GA, offers pathways to view a variety of wildlife, including water fowl, wading birds, snakes, and many, many insects.

I switched to digital in 2000, which allows more experimenting, with instant feedback, so I can correct a shot immediately. My current camera is a Nikon D-90, with a 28-300 and a macro. Although I'm digital, I don't use...
