Description
In this image of serenity, a wooden walkway reaches into the distance, with a shelter built over a portion of it. The boardwalk passes over the water of a pond, which can be seen on the right side of the photo, while trees encroach from the left.
The absolute calm of the pond gives a topsy-turvy mirror-like symmetry to the scene, upside down and right side up at the same time.
The light and shadows of the trees gives evidence of strong sunshine; and the variety of colors indicates the variety of trees -- oaks, pine, cypress, and willow line the footpath. At the far end, the shore can be seen.
There are many contrasts here, from the jumble of the trees to the patterned uprights and crossbars of the structure. There is extra length in the posts, and extra numbers in the slats. The shelter is uniform in color, standing against the multi-colored backdrop of the early autumn forest. But the absolute calm isn't just the water. This image rests the soul.
