Description
Across the frame of this image, stretching diagonally from bottom left to top right, is a nautical rope made of natural fibers. The fibers have been tamed fro their natural state, pulled and twisted into conformity, as can be seen by the regular pattern along its length. It is old and used; several individual fibers have broken and rotted; but the whole still works.
Resting on the sturdy, heavy-duty rope is a light clump of Spanish moss, a wildly curling tangle blowing in the breeze. It, too, is natural; but its fibers remain individual. It is easily broken. It is new, living, green/gray in color.
Both of these -- rope and moss -- are in the shadows, backlit by the sunlight in the background. Spots of white, tan, brown, and green glint in the sun. But the foreground figures are central, telling the story of strength in numbers, weakness in standing alone.
