Description
The water of a mountain stream plunges down a rock-covered creek bed, bouncing off the boulders in a zigzag pattern. In the shadowy background, the angles of the rocks indicate the angle of the mountainside. The shadows wash the green of the moss into darkness. The mid-range of the image shows the brilliant yellow-green of moss that gets both water and sun plentifully. It is between these rocks that the water can be seen tumbling, rushing toward the pool in the foreground, where the flat terrain allows the stream to relax its speed.
The rocks in the scene are mostly jagged in shape, with gashes and harsh angles. Those in the background and mid ground are large boulders, forcing the stream of water to bend in an angular fashion. Toward the foreground, the stone are smaller, having been pounded by the falling water and washed by its rushing wetness.
The photo is framed top and bottom by tree branches. Those at the top belong to an over-reaching tree. Those at the bottom are old and dead, trapped in the rocks at the edge of the creek.
The only "color" in the image is the green of moss. Its brightness shows against the dark shadows of the background and the gray-brown of the rocks. The water makes a white ribbon as it bounces down the center of the frame.
