With the camera pointed straight down, the dock appears vertical, like a fence; but it's really horizontal, flat to walk on. This boardwalk is a pattern of wooden 2x4s, wood laid beside wood, each piece parallel to the one beside it, and nailed in place. Along the edge, running horizontally across the center of the image, the frame is two boards thick, dividing the walkway from the murky green water of a tidal creek. The frame is covered with a strip of canvas, nailed into place with tacks.
On the boardwalk, at the center bottom of the photograph, is a metal cleat with an S-curve. A white nylon rope is tied around it in a cleat hitch, looping over and under its arms before reaching over the edge toward the water. At the end, a large red rubber ball dangles just above the surface of the water. Its purpose is to protect boats from damage as they approach the dock.

I've always loved looking at nature, drifting along with the ever-changing clouds, stopping to smell the roses. God's creation gives an abundant and ever changing variety of subjects for me to capture. I enjoy photographing all of nature, from the wide vistas of mountains and valleys, right down to spiders, butterflies, and dewdrops. I bought my first camera, a Canon AE-1, in 1979, and practiced and experimented and asked questions. I still ask questions and read blogs; but I've never taken a formal course or workshop. I switched to digital in 2000, which allows more experimenting, with instant feedback, so I can correct a shot immediately. My current camera is a Nikon D-90, with a 28-300 and a macro.
