A blue dragonfly rests on a small twig that leans out over a lily pad. Its green head and blue body are are in line with one another, their line broken by two pairs of outstretched wings which hang at an angle. The brown of the wings, and their jutting angle, mimic that of the twig.
Two lily pads are in the frame. One almost fills the image, and forms a uniform background for the dragonfly to be seen. Its bottom portion is outside the bottom edge of the photograph. The top left corner of the frame holds a portion of another lily pad, just an arc, in a brighter shade of green.
I've always loved looking at nature, drifting along with the ever-changing clouds, stopping to smell the roses. God's creation gives an abundant and ever changing variety of subjects for me to capture. I enjoy photographing all of nature, from the wide vistas of mountains and valleys, right down to spiders, butterflies, and dewdrops. I bought my first camera, a Canon AE-1, in 1979, and practiced and experimented and asked questions. I still ask questions and read blogs; but I've never taken a formal course or workshop. I switched to digital in 2000, which allows more experimenting, with instant feedback, so I can correct a shot immediately. My current camera is a Nikon D-90, with a 28-300 and a macro.
