Early morning, just before sunrise, is the most beautiful part of the day. In this photograph, the sky is clear -- totally cloudless -- and a golden peachy orange color. The promise is not yet fulfilled. The anticipation is exquisite.
The horizon is wide. It stretches the dimensions of the photo from side to side, pushing the sides ever wider. It forms the center line of the image. Above it, the clear sky glows. Below, the ocean laps onto the dark sand of the beach. Wetness shows the pattern of waves flowing and ebbing, leaving peachy reflections on the shore. Those waves come in from the right side of the shot, encroaching on the damp sand in the lower left.
I've always loved looking at nature, drifting along with the ever-changing clouds, stopping to smell the roses. God's creation gives an abundant and ever changing variety of subjects for me to capture. I enjoy photographing all of nature, from the wide vistas of mountains and valleys, right down to spiders, butterflies, and dewdrops. I bought my first camera, a Canon AE-1, in 1979, and practiced and experimented and asked questions. I still ask questions and read blogs; but I've never taken a formal course or workshop. I switched to digital in 2000, which allows more experimenting, with instant feedback, so I can correct a shot immediately. My current camera is a Nikon D-90, with a 28-300 and a macro.
