Moored at a small wooden dock, three small boats are the subject of this image. They crowd into the foreground, a rowboat and two peddle boats. The peddle boats are alike, with slender silver pontoons and yellow seats. They flank the far end of the dock, side by side but separated by a wooden walkway. They are shadowed by a tree. Closer in lies a single rowboat made of aluminum. It has been painted mint green on the inside, with weathered wooden planks -- unpainted -- for seats. It noses toward the viewer, filling the frame.
The lake on which the boats float is calm enough to accurately reflect both the trees on the far shore and the clouds that float across the deep blue sky high above. Thus, the viewer sees trees right side up and upside down, with sky and clouds both above and below.
The greens and yellows of the scenic background are echoed in the yellows and greens of the floating pleasure craft, tying the scene together.
I've always loved looking at nature, drifting along with the ever-changing clouds, stopping to smell the roses. God's creation gives an abundant and ever changing variety of subjects for me to capture. I enjoy photographing all of nature, from the wide vistas of mountains and valleys, right down to spiders, butterflies, and dewdrops. I bought my first camera, a Canon AE-1, in 1979, and practiced and experimented and asked questions. I still ask questions and read blogs; but I've never taken a formal course or workshop. I switched to digital in 2000, which allows more experimenting, with instant feedback, so I can correct a shot immediately. My current camera is a Nikon D-90, with a 28-300 and a macro.
