Description
Stretching its neck up tall and proud, a Great Blue Heron reaches for the morning sun. Its wings spread wide as it greets the morn. The form of the bird is reflected in the water of the lagoon, leaving a small wake as it wades along. Its posture mimics the wideness of the horizon and the tallness of the vegetation. The reflection of sky and grass onto the calm lagoon water completes the scene.
I had seen two Great Blue Herons flying around Huntington Beach State Park, SC, and hurried to ready my camera. As I watched, the dance began -- neck stretched up, wings wide, slow steps toward what must be his mate. The morning light was just right, and the plot was slowly building.
