Artist's Description

The scene begins in waters of a tidal creek on James Island in Charleston, SC. In the foreground, the perfect smoothness of the dark water creates a mirror-like surface, reflecting the wide expanse of marsh grass that grows there. The sky above them is lightly overcast, with varying shades of gray. The distinctly horizontal strata of the photo -- water, grass, trees, and sky -- call to mind a flag, waving in the Charleston breeze.
