Artist's Description

In this photo, the background is dominant: numerous stars streak across the night sky in parallel lines of motion. The passing of time is suggested by the streaks of the stars' movement, their parallel lines marking the movement of the Earth on its axis.

A well-lit foreground of palms and pines stands against that night, crowding into the bottom right corner of the image. The frothy green foliage is a contrast within itself: the bright green of the palm leaves against the darker pine needles, which are tipped with new growth; the wild profusion of the curving palm fronds, their leaflets pointing every which way, against the straight regulated bundles of the pine.

But the jagged edges of the foreground trees hold their own against the diagonal dashes that cross the darkness, adding interest to the scene.

Although I'm digital, I don't use...
