Artist's Description

Shown from below down river, with rocks in the foreground, Watson Mill Bridge stretches horizontally across the frame. The bridge is made of lumber; its vertical planks, at one time painted red, have now weathered to an uneven tan/gray in most places, with only remnants of the color remaining. Halfway along the long structure is a wide stretch of open window, which allows light inside.

The long bridge spans spillway on a low wide river, which seeks its way around large rock formations. In this photo, the water level is low. Water stills falls from the spillway; but it isn't gushing. The river, which in wet weather covers the great rocks, tumbling and churning, has left its mark, as can be seen by the dried mud along the edges of the rocks. But in this image, the rocks are mostly dry, with foot-high grass growing in shallow holes where dirt has settled.

The image can be divided into three horizontal portions. The huge boulders in the foreground take up the bottom half...

I've always loved looking at nature, drifting along with the ever-changing clouds, stopping to smell the roses. God's creation gives an abundant and ever changing variety of subjects for me to capture. I enjoy photographing all of nature, from the wide vistas of mountains and valleys, right down to spiders, butterflies, and dewdrops. I bought my first camera, a Canon AE-1, in 1979, and practiced and experimented and asked questions. I still ask questions and read blogs; but I've never taken a formal course or workshop. I switched to digital in 2000, which allows more experimenting, with instant feedback, so I can correct a shot immediately. My current camera is a Nikon D-90, with a 28-300 and a macro.
