Artist's Description

Small ridges and valleys of beach, blown by the wind and moved by the tides, mark a pattern on the beach. At sunrise, the tiny ridges catch the sun, looking like parallel lines of fire. The valleys between remain in the depths of shadow. Darkest brown contrasts with fiery orange.

The pattern shows vertical stripes, not quite parallel, some reaching and joining, others continuing straight. Yet others curve together, as if in a slow dance. The image is fleeting, cannot be captured again. The sand is constantly moving, shifted by creatures, washed by water, blown by breezes.

I've always loved looking at nature, drifting along with the ever-changing clouds, stopping to smell the roses. God's creation gives an abundant and ever changing variety of subjects for me to capture. I enjoy photographing all of nature, from the wide vistas of mountains and valleys, right down to spiders, butterflies, and dewdrops. I bought my first camera, a Canon AE-1, in 1979, and practiced and experimented and asked questions. I still ask questions and read blogs; but I've never taken a formal course or workshop. I switched to digital in 2000, which allows more experimenting, with instant feedback, so I can correct a shot immediately. My current camera is a Nikon D-90, with a 28-300 and a macro.
