Description
A large white bird -- a Great Egret -- poses along the edge of a pond, motionless, looking for food. Its body faces to the left of the image. Its neck is stretched tall.
The pond in which it stands forms the background of the scene. In the distance, near the top of the frame, the pond is covered with dark green lily pads and dotted with pink water lilies. The mid ground is open water, dark, with a slight reflection of the trees that surround the area. The foreground shows stalks of various water plants, light yellow-green, shining in the sun. Partly blocking the bird from view are softly focused reeds and cattails that grow along the rim of the water. In the top left corner, three willow leaves add to the scene.
This photo was taken at Brick Pond Park, an urban nature site in downtown North Augusta, SC.
